My Weekend

I had such a great weekend! It started off with a nice dinner and after work drinks on friday then a fun day trip with my partner and my mum and dad yesterday, and today, I spent the day playing with the dog and enjoying the sunshine in the garden.

Here are some of the interesting things I saw and bought on my day trip to Edinburgh and North Berwick yesterday:-

This vintage leather bucket bag has to be my best bargain for 2012 so far as I got it for only £1......YES £1!!!!!! in a charity shop in Portobello, Edinburgh, I love a good bargain.

In the lovely seaside town of North Berwick is one of my fave little boutiques called "Madame Butterfly". A visit to Madame Butterfly for me, is like a treasure hunt. The boutique is packed full of beautiful interiors and accessories for your home and also dotted around, you will find some gorgeous clothing accessories, vintage pieces and jewels.
I often pick up either some vintage pieces or something for my house when I visit as I love to get something special and something that I wouldn't find back in Glasgow.
My last visit was a few months back and I remember falling in love with a cape that the stylish owner was wearing, although to my dissapointment the cape was something she had picked up on her travels so wasn't available to buy :-(
Yesterday, on my visit to the boutique I was delighted to see the owner had picked up a couple of the beautiful capes on her travels to sell in the store!! After trying both capes on, I opted for the cape with the lovely browns, greens and gold tones as opposed to the lighter blue and cream shade cape which didn't seem to compliment my dark hair, dark eyes colourings as much. The cape was bought in Oman and is made from a silk-cashmere mix with a faux-fur collar trim and faux-fur trim baubles and it is just stunning on. It's the perfect accessory that will keep me warm in the colder days and keep my skin cool in the summer sun. Apart from seeing the owner wearing her cape, I haven't yet seen anyone wearing this so it makes me love it all the more.

.............So much for not buying anything and saving for London next month!!

As well as my fashion, I love cars, especially vintage cars so when I saw this car, I had to get a few pictures! The vintage car is a Jowett, and the only reason I know this is that the owners had displayed this interesting notice about the car!

All in all, with good company, the first day of sunshine and warmer weather for 2012, nice places to visit, and a finding few lovely accessories to add to my collection, I had a great weekend!

Window Dressing

I love this new window display in the Cruise Clothing boutique in Glasgow. It's not so much the clothing that I love, it's the props that I think are just spot on. If I had a house big enough for putting the big vintage flip display board, I would as it's really cool and would make a fab statement piece in a lovely big house! I think big, vintage trunks are also perfect for storing your accessories in your bedroom or dressing room. The more old and tatty the trunk, the better it is as it tells you a story that it's been well used and well travelled!

I'm not afraid of technology, I mean I love my iphone and use my laptop daily but certain things I think feel better the old fashioned way, like, my daily commute to the train station would be more interesting with big old fashioned flip boards instead of the electronic boards and watching people lugging around well used trunk luggage covered with stickers for all the countries they have visited instead of the typical bland black trolley case!

I guess I'm a girl who likes and appreciates both the vintage and the new, which really isn't a bad thing!!

Hot to Trot

This season, when it comes to sneakers, the more glitz, glitter and gems, the better!
Miu Miu have created this stunning range of high fashion sneakers and with prices ranging between £295 ~ £450, these aren't just any ordinary sneakers!

For those of us who love these, but can't afford to splash the cash, why not try customising a simple pair of plain sneakers or even a pair of blank converse with studs, glitter, jewels.......the skies the limit to how far you go with them.

Have a search on eBay or in the charity shops for old pieces of jewellery, studs etc to use for your bespoke sneakers.

Happy DIY fashionistas!!!

The Writing's on the wall

As you can see, I love my belts!
The latest belt I've added to my collection is the pale tan and gold Marni belt, which I got from the outnet.com at a bargain price. The Moschino belt is probably one of the most coveted belts around and I think it will continue to look classic for more seasons to come. The "Roy" belt is by J&M Davidson and was purchased from mywardrobe.com a few years back.

Aside from these modern belts, I have a stunning collection of vintage belts which over the years I have sourced from charity and vintage shops.

Accessories can make an outfit so it's good to have a selection of the key accessories of a belt, jewellery (statement necklace, bangles / cuff, earrings) & bags to play around with.

Neon, is going to be big for this spring/summer season so for those who don't feel comfortable rocking the latest neon skinny jeans trend, opt for a neon clutch, neon nails or a chunky neon cuff instead!

The Rag & Bone Galaxy jean

I'm a big believer in that you can never have too many pairs of jeans.......or shoes.....or handbags for that matter! Anyway, before christmas, I was tempted to buy a pair of maroon/purple skinny jeans from Topshop, but in the end I decided not to get a pair. Last week I spotted these "galaxy print" jeans from Rag & Bone denim and I just love them! I want them even more now that I've seen them on the fabulous "Style by Kling" site, they look even more stunning on!

These basic sandals from Zara, would also complement these jeans nicely, and at £29.99 they are a pretty good bargain too!

Goodies from Mulberry, Christian Louboutin & Sleeprollers

Well, after a hard-day's work it was great to go back to these treats that the mailman delivered for me:-

When these sleep-in rollers promised "goodbye sleepless nights, hello great hair", how could I resist! I've been using the standard velcro rollers that have the thick plastic insides so these pretty pink soft rollers should be so much more light and more comfortable in my hair. I can't wait to test these out and will update you on the results as soon as I do.

A Mulberry London Fashion Week 2012 tote bag.
My mum actually managed to get me this gorgeous little tote bag as a surprise!
I'm not quite sure how she did it but thanks mum, I love it.

Christian Louboutin Tattoos.
These are a limited edition piece for the 20th anniversary of Christian Louboutin and available from the Louboutin pop-up store in Selfridges, London.
Again, these are a surprise gift from my mum! She knows I love limited edition pieces like this.

I'm delighted with all my new bits and bobs.

The Alexander Wang Adele Clutch

I really love this Adele clutch from Alexander Wang. I love how the neutral canvas and leather trim gives this clutch a raw and tough edge and how the rose-gold hardware adds a softer, prettier feel.

This clutch is a good, staple accessory which will look great in the summer months teamed with bright silks and through the winter months with your warm wollen military coat.

I think what I like best is the fold-over structure of this clutch, it makes me think of the little brown paper lunch bags that are either scrunched or folded over at the top!

The Adele clutch also comes in a leather option in both grey and black.

Love this

I love this little black number and hope that when it's released in April time that it's affordable enough for me to treat myself too! Failing that, I may try to re-create the look with a sheer sleevless blouse tucked into a puffed skirt and give it the couture finish by adding on my own mixture of vintage jewels and beads.
