So, it's been a good while since I last posted something on the blog. Less than 2 weeks ago, I was told I have cancer. I've spent the last 2 weeks in and out of hospital for various tests and have been through every emotion you can think of from feeling sad, scared, angry.......
My cancer started in the bowel and has now spread to my liver. The Doctors said it was so unusual for someone my age (30) to have this and they reckon I've had this for years but the symptoms are only just coming to light just now.
I've survived Meningitis when I was younger so I will try to beat this now too.
Pending further biopsy results, all being well, I am due to start my chemo next week. I have the best support from my family and friends and will need this for my big fight ahead. All I can do is try to stay strong, positive, be brave and keep fighting this.
For the long road ahead, I know I will have my good days and my bad days. On my good days I will try to get out and make the most of it and on the not so good days, I will have a good rest and put on the Sex and the City DVD boxset and get my bestie to paint my nails and do my hair!
I'm going to try to keep in with the blogging as after all, my passion for fashion will never leave me so it will give me something to focus on and keep my mind occupied with.
Thanks for reading
xx

Hope you manage to enjoy your London trip and have a nice time at the Mandeville Hotel London.
Even although Laura is so unwell she managed to get down to London for her special day. Just want to thank the Mandeville Hotel in London for making the day so special. Laura is a very brave girl and thank you to all her friends and family who are supporting Laura through this very tough time. She is so brave and just cares about others around her and never complains. I know she is missing being able to post on her blog as it is her passion but hope she can manage to put some pictures of London on when she gets back or maybe she can teach me to do it as I know she cannot do this when she has her chemotherapy sessions. Round 3 is coming up this week so wishing Laura all the best and hope she does not have such severe reactions this time around. Will try and keep people posted if and when I can of how Laura is getting on. Thanks again Mandeville for making her stay at your lovely hotel so nice.
ReplyDeleteLove you so much Laura
Your proud Mumsie x
Hey, just wanted to say how pleased I am that Laura managed to make it to London for this trip, she's such a wee darling and an absolute fighter. Big huge hugs to you hon and all your family, will be keeping up with the blog so lets see those London photos! Shona xx
ReplyDeleteHi Shona
ReplyDeleteHeard so much about you from Laura I will let her know you have posted on her blog. Just so glad she made it to London. Not sure she managed to do much but hope she can post on the blog when she is able to and up to it. She gets her oncology appointment tomorrow at Beatson and then her third round of chemotherapy on Wednesday so will try and keep you posted. Take care and say hello to your sister.
Mumsie x
Hoping Laura gets on okay with her third chemotherapy session tomorrow at the Beatson in Glasgow. She is not very well just now before this one so just hope and pray she will be okay. Will be thinking about you Dollybird. You are being so brave we are so very proud of you. Keep strong.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots
Mumsie x
Laura had another very bad reaction to her third chemotherapy session today. Keep people posted when I can. She is so brave and it is so good that people keep supporting her through this very rough time.
DeleteA beautiful bouquet of flowers and a cute teddy bear arrived via Interflora today for Laura from her work colleagues and it is very much appreciated. Laura cannot use her phone, or post at the moment due to the effects of the chemotherapy so on behalf of Laura I want to pass her thanks onto all her friends and work colleagues who sent these beautiful flowers and teddy bear. Will try and get someone to take a pic of them and post them as I am not technically minded.
Thanks to all who are supporting Laura through this terribly hard and difficult time.
She is so brave. Very proud of my beautiful daughter. Best girl in the World.
Love you
Mumsie x
Really miss you Laura. So glad you made it to London. Nicol is now crawling and talking! Keep telling him about you...hes very excited about meeting you when you feel up to it. Stay strong and keep fighting love tj xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is a message from Laura typed by her Mum Lesley. Laura wants to thank Nicol for the beautiful present that arrived today. It is so special and such a lovely surprise Laura is delighted. She wanted me to pass on her thanks to Nicol for such a lovely gift. The miniature roses are gorgeous and the container it is in is so beautiful with the little bird attached to it. Really brightened up Laura's day and she has given it pride of place on her bedroom window sill. Laura not up to typing any long messages so wanted to pass on her thanks to Nicol and TJ for being so thoughtful. Really cheered her up so thank you both.
DeleteLove Lesley x
Wishing you and Colin the most wonderful Wedding Day tomorrow Saturday. Hope the sun is shining for you both. Love and hugs to Nicol

Message to Margaret. Thank you for doing all the changes to the Wedding arrangements. Obviously Laura is not up to be able to do such rearranging due to her chemotherapy and the effects it has had on her as you know and she wants you to know how grateful she is for all your hard work in contacting everyone and getting it all rearranged.
ReplyDeleteThanks also to Gemma for being a great support to Laura and to Gemma's friends too especially Laura who I like very much and brought Laura a lovely gift last night.
She is a very bubbly personality girl. So thanks to that Laura
Mumsie Shannon x
Laura would thank you all but she is not up to updating or typing her messages which I will be doing for a while so forgive me if I don't get it quite like Laura does as I know I cannot keep up to her standard but will try my best to keep the posts going.
Take care all and thanks for all the wonderful support from everyone
Lesley (Mumsie ) x
It was a real struggle and I am just glad we made it down to London and had the luxury of the penthouse suite at Saint Martins Lane Hotel in Covent Garden. I still do not know how this came about and am pinching myself but I just wish Laura had been a bit better so that she could have enjoyed it more. It is so unfair. You know Laura likes to update her blog and take lots of pictures. Laura was not well enough to take any pictures there but Gillian has taken a lot and once she sends them onto Laura I will do my best to post some on and try and post things for Laura as she is unable to do this herself due to her illness as you will all know about it you have been reading the updates.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gillian, thanks to the best chauffeur in the World Ewan and thanks Laura for being the best daughter a Mum could wish for and just sorry that Christopher and Alan were not with us as it was amazing even although you were so unwell Laura you never complain and glad you got yet another pair of Louboutins. A girl could never have too many Louboutin's
Love you Laura. Best Girl in the World. Mumsie x
Sorry this is in parts as would not accept so many letters. Just to say we made it to London with Laura but a real struggle as she was so unwell. Gillian managed to get Laura in her wheelchair to Selfridges and to Louboutin. So that was most important places for both Laura and Gillian to get to. When we arrived we were given the Penthouse at Saint Martins Lane 45 St Martins Lane London WC2N 4HX TEL +44 (0) 20 73005500 from start to finish treated like Royalty just a shame Laura was too ill to enjoy it. Views over London from floor to ceiling windows The Shard, London Eye, Coliseum, Trafalgar Square. The views were the best I could ever wish to have seen. Thank you to all at St Martins Lane Hotel for kindness. Apart from Gillian getting Laura out in her wheelchair without which she would not have made it out poor Laura was too ill to enjoy the room or the views or take pics. Laura insisted we went for breakfast which was amazing. So thank you to Laura the best girl in the World as I always say she never complains and thinks of others all the time. What a girl. Love you Laura Mumsie x
ReplyDeleteGillian and I nipped out to have quick look round Covent Garden in morning when poor Laura was ill in bed being looked after well by Dad. We wanted to find the Chanel Pop Up Shop which we did and the person who helped us was Amy. She was so lovely. She asked if we were looking for anything special and we said we wanted something different and explained that Laura was unwell and unable to come out and see the pop up shop for herself something she was looking foward to doing. So Amy helped us and we picked Limited Edition not available anywhere else lipstick and nail varnish that Laura has still not opened as not well enough to do so. Amy wrapped it up all beautifully and individually with Chanel Covent Garden Ribbon and popped in some free gifts that included a Ltd Edition Chanel Mirror not available elsewhere and other goodies so that is a big THANK YOU to Amy at Chanel Covent Garden Pop Up Shop.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy credit to Chanel

ReplyDeleteA big THANK YOU to Rachel at the ILLamasqua Counter of Birmingham Selfridges. Rachel a thank you card is on its way. Rachel has sent Laura a lot of beautiful Illamasqua items from her very own collection and has promised to send Laura more Illamasqua items when she gets her new kit. How wonderful is that and so thoughtful. Rachel also said that maybe the founder of Illamasqua might send Laura some goodies so well done to Illamasqua if they do so but more important to me is that Illamasqua know what good people they have working for them. I mean that Rachel is a wonderful person, who sent Laura some wonderful items that Laura has not been well enough to see yet and I am taking them over to show her them today Rachel. So a big THANK YOU RACHEL. I think I have found your full name on the internet well my son did and if that is you then you are an absolutely beautiful looking girl on the outside as well as your beauty and selflessness shining from the inside.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel. Sorry Laura not up to thanking you herself.
Card on its way and once I know its you - the right Rachel if you contact me back I will send you a little thank you gift.
Thanks Rachel. Thanks Illamasqua at Seldriges in Birmingham Bull Ring.
Take care Rachel and I hope your dream of becoming a model come true

ReplyDeleteA personal message goes to Julian Kynaston the founder of Illamsqua. Thank you for your beautiful gift that you sent to Laura but more importantly the signed compliment slip which we will get framed for Laura. It will mean a lot to her as I am sure not many people will have such a wonderful item. I also love the design of the compliment slip. Very beautiful. I hope that your gift to Laura brightens her day when I take it over to her tomorrow. It will mean a lot to her on Laura's behalf Julian thank you so much. You must be very proud of what you have achieved and I for one admire you.

Laura's next round of chemotherapy has been delayed as she needs a rest to get herself stronger and better. Try and get a good rest this week Laura and sleep as much as you can to get your strength back. Hopefully get the hypnotherapy organised at the Harvest Clinic in Glasgow and take it from there.
ReplyDeleteKeep strong. The most beautiful girl in the World on the inside as well as the outside. Love you lots Best Girl in The World and Bravest Girl in the World. Mumsie x
Laura very sick again today and its been a real struggle. Keep fighting the fight Laura and win the battle. Laura is very weak just now so everyone out their friends, family, colleagues keep up your support and help Laura to get stronger. Keep sending the cards and letters as they cheer Laura up when I read them to her. Laura had the line in her arm changed today to the other arm. Next Tuesday if she is well enough she will also have a PICC line put in before the following days chemotherapy. Just hope she can get stronger each day and be ready for that. She really is struggling just now and keep in touch. Keep supporting her blog. Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteHow are you, how is Laura today? I've been keeping up-to-date with Laura's blog over the past week and it's so lovely to see all the support she has, Laura is an amazing person and so strong!
I came home yesterday, will be here for a while and was wondering if Laura was up for visitors, would love to see her!
Love Kim
xx
Thanks Lynsey for your lovely blog. I will let Laura know you left her this lovely message. As you all know she is very unwell at moment so I read out any postings on her blog to her if she is up to listening to me. Health Visitors in every day changing her pump and GP coming in tomorrow. she is not too well just now and we are waiting on some results coming back. Hopefully all being well she goes to Beatson again next tuesday to see her oncologist and if strong enough will get her fourth chemotherapy on Wednesday next week. She is to have a PICC line fitted also and is a bit worried about that. So if she is strong enough she has an appointment on Friday evening to have hypnotherapy to try to help her with her anxiety and needle phobia. Poor Laura she is fighting hard and trying to be very strong but it is good that she knows you are all there for her supporting her in whatever way, sending cards, letters etc all appreciated by Laura and the family. Everyone has been so kind and it just shows all the love that is out there for Laura. She is such a strong girl and a fighter and fighting as hard as she can. Keep everyone posted when I can.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim or should I say Bonjour Kimmy. Glad that you are home and pop over and see Laura anytime. Just need to see how she is when you are over if she is up to seeing you but I know you will understand how it is. I saw your Mum and Dad that day but could not talk to them x Say hello to them both for me. You know where Laura is don't you Kim so if she is not up to talking to you usually one of us is there all the time anyhow. See you when we see you.
Take care and nice you are home for a while.

I would like to thank Mr Mark Shaw of WFBM Ltd (www.wfbm.co.uk)I ordered ginger sweets which help with the metallic taste Laura gets with her chemotherapy and these are on order from USA to Whole Food Brand Management and as they are not in stock yet Mark has kindly sent me a parcel on its way to Laura of some ginger items for Laura to have whilst we wait on her ginger sweets. So a big thank you to Mark of this company for doing this. This is very kind of you. Well done Mark.

ReplyDeleteLots of love to you all xx
Laura off to Harvest Clinic in town to get her first ever hypnotherapy session. Just hope it helps her. She is having such a terribly tough time. Only time she is out now is to go to hospital appointments at Beatson and even then her fourth round of chemotherapy was cancelled due to her being so weak. Hope this helps her and see how she gets on Tuesday when she next sees the oncologist. Bravest and most beautiful girl in the World. Glad your tulips arrived and you liked them. Was lovely to see Angela and David all the way from Canada. Hope they have a safe journey down to the Lakes, then Nottingham and then London before heading back to Canada. It was so lovely to see them. They have not changed a bit. Hi to Janie and Lorna and partners if you are reading this. Take care of each other. Lots of love Lesley x

To Laura's Mumsie....you're all being so good and strong for her but please try to take some time for you too and make sure you've got someone to talk to as well.
ReplyDeleteI know you're all taking great care of her and she's in my thoughts and everyone elses. I took Shona to Amsterdam for the weekend and we couldn't help but noticing things and saying "Laura would love that"...here's the main one that she'd love most...maybe you could show her the website when she's feeling up to looking at it (http://www.tassenmuseum.nl/en)
Take care, thinking of you all. Give Laura my love
Lynsey xx
Just noticed the posting Lynsey. Will show it to Laura when she is up to it. I take it you are Shona's sister that Laura talks about x Hope you all had a fab time and sure Laura would wish she was there too. The handbags look amazing. I had a quick look. She was at Beatson today and back tomorrow to have PICC line and fourth round of chemotherapy as you know it was cancelled last time as she was too ill to get it. So hope she gets on okay tomorrow. Will be a long day for her think its about 8 hours + and she is so nervous about getting the PICC line inserted. So hope she manages to get a sleep tonight and tomorrow it will be over and done with before she knows it and hope its not too sore for her. She is so brave and does not realise how brave she has been. She made it to the Harvest Clinic in Glasgow for her hypnotherapy so hope that helps although its early days and she needs few more sessions for it to really help I would imagine. Managed to pop into Maggies Centre for a short time after Beatson today as Laura was feeling sick we could not stay long but it looks a lovely place and very friendly people so hope Laura gets a bit stronger so that she can take advantage of what they have to offer. She just has not been well enough bless her. She is a wee soul but like her wee Mumsie she is a fighter. Will definitely show her the museum. Sure there will be lots of things in it she would love. You know Laura only too well.
ReplyDeleteTake care and love and hugs to you and Shona
Lesley x Will pass on your love to Laura so good you are keeping in touch. Let you know how things go when I can x

ReplyDeleteI hope the reaction to the next chemo has been less severe and you're all keeping strong. Lots of love, Shona xx
Laura had PICC line fitted last week and was very brave. She had chemotherapy drip removed but seemed bit stronger this time however not so good Sunday and Monday so hope she is feeling better tomorrow. Taking each day at a time and she is keeping strong in her spirits. Wee soul.
ReplyDeleteKeep you all posted
Lesley x
Poor Laura has had a very bad week this week. Not feeling well at all and not been good. She has been filling sick 24/7 again and is very weak and no energy at all. So hope next week when she sees oncologist on Monday and then gets next chemotherapy on Wednesday for her next round of chemotherapy she will be a little bit better. Just hope each day is better than the one before but not happened for poor wee Laura this week. She tries to be so strong and it is so hard for her. She is the bravest and most gorgeous girl in the World and I am not just saying that cause I am her wee Mumsie. We were at Marie Curie and the Dr there is lovely. A Dr Laidlaw she is so lovely and kind and helps so much. A real gem of a person. So well done to Dr Laidlaw at Marie Curie for being such a caring and kind human being.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who sent Laura cards this week. You know who you are without being named. Thanks all makes a difference when the postie drops a wee something through the door. Nice for so many people to keep in touch.
Love and hugs to you all and special big HUG and LOVE and KISSES to Laura. x Keep strong. We all love you so much
Mumsie x
Just to keep everyone updated. Laura got her fifth round of chemotherapy today and as always very brave. Putting on a brave face and keeping strong. Unfortunately Laura needs blood transfusions on Friday at the Beatson so very nervous about this as you all know she does not like needles or the sight of blood so both together. However due to her bravery and her hypnotherapy at the Harvest Clinic which has worked wonders I am sure again Laura will be very brave. All the lovely staff at the Beatson will look after her well. Got her chemotherapy pump fitted on today after 8 and a half hours delivery of chemotherapy. Reacted this time but not as bad as before. Bit shaky on her feet and her hands are very shaky but very brave and still has her gorgeous smile. Love you lots Dollybird Mumsie x
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who is staying in touch with Laura and myself. Keeping us all strong. Especially Laura. Means a lot x Take care all
Laura admitted to Beatson ward today early in morning to get 3 lots of blood transfusions. Thanks to all those blood donors out there. Cannot thank you enough. Laura has just now started the 3 session of the blood transfusions. Very brave as he hates needles and sight of blood. She is very brave and so proud of her. She is a real fighter and thanks to all at the Baatson who work so hard. Laura had to have the blood transfusions in a cannula in her other hand as she is still getting her fifth round of chemotherapy through her PICC line so she is a wee soul.
ReplyDeleteHope this keeps you all updated.
Hugs
Mumsie Shannon x
Love and hugs to our amazing Laura and to you Mumsie Shannon for staying so strong to support your wee girl through all of this....it must be so hard on everyone. Thinking of you all x
ReplyDeleteBrave Laura getting her CT scan this afternoon. She will be brave as always.
ReplyDeletePlease keep her in your prayers x
Just to update and say that Laura was very brave getting her CT scan done today at Stobhill. Thank you to the lovely staff at CT imaging department for kindness. Poor Laura put her numbing cream on both hands as she knew that a cannula would be fitted as it cannot be given through the PICC line. So there she was ready to have the cannula inserted when they told her it could not go on her hands but in the crook of her arm. Bless her she got this done and never said a word and we all know how scared of needles she is so very brave indeed.
ReplyDeleteJust need to wait on the results now. Let us all hope and pray that she gets a good result as she deserves a break as she has been so brave and strong throughout this cancer treatment and chemotherapy regime.
Bravest Girl in the World
Hugs to Laura
Mumsie x We all love you so so much. Gorgeous girl on inside and outside. So precious x Always thinking of others.
A lovely lady in with her son at the CT imaging department pushed something into my hand as we left and said this is for your beautiful daughter. It was a lovely knitted little cross inside a knitted pocket with a beautiful prayer wrapped up inside it so to whoever that lady is bless her for her kindness and thoughtfulness. It means a lot to us all.
Hugs to all. Have a good weekend. Mumsie x
Hi everyone
ReplyDeleteLaura did not get her CT scan results. Might get them on 5th November. So a long anxious wait for Laura and all the family and friends. Not a good week this week Laura has little or no energy and bloods very low again so tomorrow Beatson might have to do another lot of blood transfusions and or platelets maybe. Not sure. She will get another blood test when she goes in first thing in morning and they will decide whether to go ahead with transfusions or give her next round of chemotherapy. As always Laura never complains and is being very brave and fighting the fight. Trying to keep strong and never complains. She is a true fighter. Keep strong dollybird everyone is supporting you family and friends thank you all

Laura was at Beatson today to see Oncologist and get pre bloods done. Into Beatson Tuesday for next round of chemotherapy. Very rough on Laura and she is being very brave and strong and keeping positive even although she is very unwell and worries about those around her.
ReplyDeleteChristopher is going to spend day with Laura at Beatson as I have a cold well feels like MAN FLU to be honest. Look like Rudolph and lost my voice so some people will be enjoying the peace and quiet!
Missing you Laura. Hope tomorrow goes well for you. Keep strong dollybird. Love you so much. So Proud of you and your braveness you deserve a medal.
Love you so much
Hugs
Mumsie x
Laura got her chemotherapy at Beatson even although levels were a bit low it went ahead. Christopher kept Laura company as I still have this cold and poor wee Laura endured nine and a half hours of chemotherapy and then home with her chemotherapy pump on. She is very brave and keeping as strong as she can be. No energy and in bed most of the time but resting up and we are taking good care of our precious gorgeous brave girl. Love you lots Mumsie x Thanks to the people who sent Laura nice cards lately. You will know who you are. Love and hugs to you both x
ReplyDeleteUpdate to let you know that Laura is not doing so well this week or last after her latest lot of chemotherapy. Struggling and keep hoping that tomorrow is a better day than before. In a bit of pain and not her usual self. Very brave and keeping strong but not a great time just now. Just to keep you all updated.
ReplyDeleteTake care all
Mumsie x
Love you so much Laura so proud of you. You are a real fighter so keep fighting the fight and tomorrow will hopefully be a better day than today. Hugs Love you so much Mumsie and Cooper is missing you too xx
Hope that Laura and Alan manage to go and pick their Christmas tree tomorrow all being well if Laura is up to it. This will be Beau's first Christmas with Laura and Alan so be interesting to see how he will be with a beautiful christmas tree full of beautiful decorations. He has already eaten the ear off one item and chewed the hat off the other. Very fetching. Keeps Laura company he is a great wee dog. Could not have wished for better. He is so cute he should be on a TV advert or in a TV series or Chidlren's Book he is absolutely adorable. Rascal at same time. All being well Laura will get her tree tomorrow and post a picture on twitter of the finished result. Have good weekend everyone. Thanks to people who sent card and a lovely letter with a photograph in it. They know who they are. Big Thank You.
ReplyDeleteHugs Mumsie x
Laura as you know not doing so good and just to keep you all updated she is at Beatson today getting her latest lot of chemotherapy. Another long stint about 9 and half hours + so luckily enough Christopher is able to stay with her today. A very long day for both of them but hope Laura manages to catch up on some much needed sleep today in between all that is going on. Thanks to everyone at the Beatson for all they do for everyone. Take care x
ReplyDeleteLaura has not been feeling too good so her latest Oncology Apt was on Monday 17 December and she went to Beatson and had her apt with oncologist and had her bloods done. On way home from apt at Beatson got a phone call to say come straight back into the Beatson to be admitted to ward for blood transfusion as her levels were so low. So not even getting home for dinner Laura was taken back to Beatson. They did more blood tests and as by this time it was night time they do not like doing the blood transfusions through the night as it would have been a nine hour transfusion they were talking about so Laura had to sleep in the ward and in the morning they would re check her blood levels. The bloods came back and they decided not to go ahead with the transfusion but to let Laura go to the Day Unit for her planned round of chemotherapy today Tuesday 18th December or she could have stayed in ward and had a sleep which I would have done but typical brave Laura decided to go and see the nurses she likes so much in the day unit and have it done there. So off we went down to the day unit and had more bloods taken. Waited on the results and then discovered that the chemotherapy that was planned today could not go ahead as her white blood count was too low so outcome was no chemotherapy and now Laura will get a break until the New Year from the chemotherapy. So over Christmas and New Year at least no chemotherapy pump to be switched off etc but still need nurses in to change dressings etc as usual. But at least Christmas Day off and New Years Day off so that will be nice. Still had all her medications to take of course. So unfortunately Laura's Immune system is rock bottom so need to be very careful not to pick up any germs etc easier said than done so TLC is on the menu for Laura as always and take each day as it comes. All this and Laura is in agony with groin injury and can hardly put one foot in front of the other. Pain is unbearable and still Laura does not complain and worries about those around her instead of herself.
ReplyDeletePoor Alan had to have a minor operation on Monday whilst Laura was im Beatson and he will have to have the stitches removed on Christmas Eve so a busy time for them both.
Thank you to Aunty Sharon for looking after the beautiful Beau so well. He enjoys Fifties company very much.
So if I do not get on again to update before Christmas Day hope everyone out there has a wonderful and safe and healthy Christmas.
Love to all our family and friends. Again you all know who you are that have supported us so well.
Happy Christmas x
Poor Laura ended up back in Beatson and we were not sure if she would get home for Christmas. Luckily for Laura her consultant Dr Waterston came up to the ward and allowed Laura to be home in time for Christmas Dinner. Although Laura is ill she managed to enjoy a bit of Christmas Day and had lovely dinner made by the lovely Peter and assisted by the lovely Gemma (Laura's sister in law to be). We all had a lovely meal and so glad Laura managed to have some dinner. Laura is not great and prone to infection just now so taking each day as it comes. She was not really well enough to open her Christmas presents as she is so weak but we managed to have the other half of them opened today Friday 28th December so it was like Christmas Day all over again. Laura got lots of lovely gifts we all did. So she is shattered again but the Beatson have kept her bed there in case she needed to go back in. Laura was meant to be on drip of antibiotics which were very strong and a drip of potassium again very strong and has had to take this orally hence making her very sick and dizzy and pretty unwell. So taking each day as it comes and hope tomorrow is a better day than today. We also managed to send a message to the wonderful Sean Batty on twitter asking him to kindly send some snow to Laura. We could not believe it when we woke up next morning the lovely Campsie Hills were completely covered in white snow so a big thank you to Sean for obliging. So thank you to everyone for all the lovely gifts that Laura got for her Christmas and for the lovely Christmas cards received from all the lovely kind people she knows. Special thanks to the lovely Lorraine and girls for looking out for Laura so well. Also it was lovely to see Gillian and Grace over today to see Laura for wee while cheered her up. Back to Beatson again on 7th January and Laura might be getting another PICC line fitted again as when she was in Beatson earlier in week they had to take her existing PICC line out. Laura was very brave and never uttered a word. She is so brave. Well done Laura. Best and most beautiful Girl in the World. We all love you lots
ReplyDeleteKeep strong and keep fighting the fight Mumsie x
I'm not sure if this will even post, but wanted to say how wonderful our Laura is, and what a great family, fiancé and in-laws she has around her. She's a wee star and we all love her dearly. Keep fighting wee lovely xx
ReplyDeleteLaura spent Monday in Beatson admitted to have new PICC line fitted. Not an easy thing to go through but as always Laura showed great bravery and got it done eventually. Then got her x ray but it was too long so she had to go back and have the procedure done again and then back to Gartnavel for another x ray when it was all closed down. She was to stay in overnight to get her latest chemotherapy on the Tuesday in the ward but asked to get home. They let her home and back into Day Unit on Tuesday. The nurses in the Day Unit are so wonderful and just love Laura - then who wouldn't fall in love with the beautiful Laura inside and out. She is the best girl in the World and I am not just saying that as I am her Mum.
ReplyDeleteAs some of you know my wee Dad has suffered terribly lately and been ill in hospital and Mum wanted him home and he got home with a hospital bed in the house but took very ill and went back into hospital.
My wonderful wee Dad lost his fight for life yesterday and he tried so hard to survive. The nurses when he went in this last time were wonderful. Ward 19 and Dad was in room 2. the nurses will know who they are true Angels. My Mum stayed with Dad the whole time day and night and slept beside him in the room. Never leaving his side. We got there as often as we could but Laura could not go and visit her Granda who she was very close to, in the hospital due to infection. It was difficult for us to go and see my Dad but we went as often as he could.
I know he is at peace now and not suffering and that means a lot to us. So Laura has had so much to deal with and now with the loss of her wee Granda just makes it another thing to cope with.
Laura has to go for osteotherapy now as she has Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction. Again more for her to cope with and very painful. We hope the osteopathy helps her for allowing her to be able to walk down the isle at the Wedding. So that and exercises and cold packs daily throughout the day and night over and above her chemotherapy. Then tonight she had to have the chemotherapy pump removed. She is so brave and she struggles with pain every day and night but worries about those around her.
What a girl. She really deserves some sort of award for what she is going through. I cannot begin to imagine what she goes through and all she does is worry about others. So glad she has the beautiful wee Beau to keep her going. He keeps us all going to be truthful. You just look at him and your heart melts.
So as I always say Laura keep fighting the fight and lots of love and hugs your wee Mumsie x We all love you so much
Rest In Peace Dad and Granda. The Best Dad and Granda in the world. x We miss you lots and always will x Love you Dad, Love you Granda x
Sorry not been on to update Laura's blog. She is having a really tough time of it. Laura is in Beatson hospital and not doing so good. She has had a blood transfusion today lasting nine hours. Thank you does not seem enough words but thank you to all blood donors out there. Unsung heroes who save lives. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLaura is to have a bone scan tomorrow (Thursday 24/01/2013) at the Nuclear Medicine at the Beatson. She is being very brave but it is very scary as they are doing this as they think that Laura's cancer may have spread into her bones. We hope and pray that this is not the case. Laura is already dealing with so much pain and suffering and putting on a brave face always worrying about those around her. This has been the hardest time of Laura's life recently and she never complains even although you can see she is in great pain. She has a broken/fractured pelvis and this has gone un-diagnosed for a while now and they discovered this at A & E in the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow (I can't remember what day that was) All the days seem to merging into one now.
Laura is having morphine painkillers today so see if that helps her deal with the pain.
Thanks to all her family and good friends who have supported not only Laura but myself and the rest of the family. We could not cope without you all helping out in whatever way you can. Good that Laura is getting visitors up to the hospital at the Beatson to help her take her mind off things. She will be missing Beau very much as he is a lovely dog and keeps us all going. Even although he is a rascal at times. We all love him very much.
I know I am Laura's Mum but I can honestly say that she is the bravest person I have ever met and is going through so much but she will never admit that. She carries on bravely and quietly and gives us all strength when she herself has little strength of her own. I hope that the blood transfusion helps Laura gain some energy and strength and that the bone scan goes well for Laura tomorrow and that the cancer has not spread to her bones. We hope and pray for a negative result of the scan.
Thanks to all for all your support. Thank you to Brain Laura's boss at work for the lovely letter you sent me. It is very much appreciated. Laura is a very hard worker and has always done things to help others.
Thanks to everyone who sends flowers, cards, letters, stones, angels, love and inspiration.
It means a lot to Laura and to all of us to know that people care and keep us going when sometimes it is hard to get through the day. Laura is the strong one. She is the fighter and she will win this fight against Cancer. Just having a really tough time right now and needs all the support in whatever way she can get it.
Take care everyone
Mumsie Shannon x Best and most precious Girl in the world. We love you lots x
Laura was home from Beatson for the weekend and goes back in early Monday morning. Might get CT scan results on Monday so hope they are good results for Laura. She deserves some good news. Laura was very unwell on Saturday and a high temperature and in lots of pain. Had to have extra morphine and such a worry to see her so unwell. She is in a lot of pain and never complains but it has been a very difficult weekend for Laura. Poor wee Beau cut his paw and he is a wee soul too. Not been the best weekend but good that Laura got to spend a little time with Alan and Beau just a shame she was not well enough to enjoy it. Back into Beatson early in the morning. Keep you all posted how things are going and how Laura gets on.
ReplyDeleteTake care all Mumsie Shannon x
Sorry not been well enough to update Laura's blog any updates on Laura but has been toughest of times. One good bit of news is that the cancer has not spread to Laura's bones.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fractured pelvis.
Imagine being thankful for a fractured pelvis. It was the lesser of the two evils.
Not even sure what date we were told this as I honestly don't know what day it is. So goodness knows how Laura feels.
She is fighting bravely on but struggling with pain etc.
Again not sure what day Laura got this news but the CT scan has shown that Laura's cancer has spread into both lungs now. So Laura is getting a 'rest' from chemotherapy at the moment until after her Wedding on 1st March 2013. If only it was a rest. She is struggling so hard and in so much pain. This was a shock we did not see coming. I know that Laura is struggling to cope with this latest news and it does not help that I am not there for her as I am a bit unwell myself but I am on mend and hope to get over to see her tonight. Her Grandma is with her but I have missed her so much and not seen her since getting back from the dress fitting in London.
ReplyDeleteSo although this is a shock and not what we wanted to here. Laura will continue to fight this. She is struggling emotionally and physically with this just now but with support and love and care we will get her through this latest horrible news.
Sorry but I have been unable to update the blog and do not even remember what days this all happened on as it came as a shock. But Laura you are a FIGHTER and you will never give up the fight. Keep strong and keep that positive mind.
Love you lots
Mumsie x
Have sent you an email Cameron. Take care x
ReplyDeleteJust to say I love you so much. I am so proud of you and how brave you try to be even when I know you are struggling. Keep strong and positive and know that you have such a loving family and good friends there to support you. You mean the World to all of us and are an inspiration to so many. You never complain even when you are in such pain and you only think of others and worry about those around you. If there was a prize for bravery it should be given to you.
ReplyDeleteLove you so much gorgeous girl. Most pretty girl in the World on the inside and the outside. They broke the mould when they made my special girl.
Love you
Mumsie x
Laura is not doing so well just now. She is being admitted to Beatson tomorrow (Monday 18/2/13). Hopefully they will manage to drain her tummy as she is in lot of pain, it is very swollen and very uncomfortable for her and she cannot eat or keep anything down. So be glad if she can have this sorted out this week in hospital as lots to do for the Wedding on 1st March 2013. So excited. Laura and her bridesmaids Gillian and Gemma have something to look forward to and wee Mumsie Shannon is allowed to go as well. The Willow Foundation has arranged for the four of us to go to Stobo Castle in Scotland and stay over night and have dinner, bed and breakfast and lunch and pampering. Gemma is having back massage, Gillian and Laura have chosen facial and I wee old Mumsie have chosen a pedicure. So hope Laura is well enough to go to Stobo and enjoy an overnight stay. At the moment she would have been unable to go so hope by next weekend the Beatson has her all sorted out and comfortable and that we girls can have a lovely wee break at the beautiful Stobo Castle. Can I thank so much the lovely Zoe of the Willow Foundation as she sorted all this out for Laura. Also to thank the lovely palliative care nurse at the Beatson Claire ONeil for organising all this via the Willow Foundation for Laura. We are so looking forward to a wee break away and I myself am looking forward to a good night's sleep and some nice walks around Stobo to see the wonderful surroundings.
ReplyDeleteKeep you all posted how Laura does this week. Take care all Mumsie x
Quick update for everyone. Laura got home from hospital Friday evening. Thanks to everyone in Ward B4 of the Beatson especially to Dr Gemma Cross who is such a lovely girl and has a wonderful bedside manner and helped Laura feel at ease. Thanks to nurses and especially palliative care nurse Claire O'Neil another lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteLaura had a very tough week in Beatson. She had approximately four litres drained from her tummy and lost five pounds in weight from this procedure. Not very nice and as always Laura was very brave.
As everyone who knows Laura and her wonderful fashion knowledge she bought her dress from Bond Street in London however it needed altered and as Laura is not well enough to travel back down to London her bridesmaid Gemma found a wonderful lady based in Kilmarnock who I thoroughly recommend to all. Her name is Elizabeth Wallace Bridal Alterations & Accessories based at 93 John Finnie Street Kilmarnock KA1 1bg tEL : 01563 537070 OR 07977 186 051 EMAIL :
contact@elizabeth-wallace.co.uk or look at website
www.elizabeth-wallace.co.uk
I would not normally put anyones details like this on Laura's blog but this lady is a true Angel in every sense of the word. She is altering Laura's dress and she is so kind and such a lovely lady I had to put her details on here. So if anyone wants a wedding dress, outfit or alternation please go to this wonderful lady. Laura had her dress fitting today and she has to go back on Wednesday to collect her dress. Without the help and assistance of this lovely lady it could have been a problem but this lovely lady Elizabeth Wallace of Kilmarnock has saved the day. So thank you Elizabeth.
So tomorrow Sunday Laura and Gillian her Chief Bridesmaid and Gemma her other bridesmaid and myself Beautiful Mumsie are off to Stobo Castle courtesy of the wonderful Zoe at Willow Foundation another amazing lady. We are booked in for dinner bed and breakfast and lunch on Monday. Use of all the lovely spa facilities and a treatment or two each. Also there is a lovely walk in the beautiful surroundings of Stobo Castle. I for one am looking forward to a good night's sleep in a comfy bed hopefully so that I look my best for Laura and Alan's Wedding Day. Not be long now Friday 1st March 2013 at 2pm at Glenskirlie Castle. Can't wait. Just need Laura to be well enough to get to Stobo tomorrow so that she can have a pamper and relaxing time. She so deserves it but how she was feeling today she does not think she will be able to go but tomorrow is another day and we can take our time and get her sorted out and hope to leave about 1pm to go and set off on our journey to Stobo courtesy of the wonderful Willow Foundation. So if all goes well and we get to Stobo tomorrow we will try and get some pictures of the day posted onto Laura's blog if she feels up to it at some point. Thanks again to everyone at Beatson in Ward B4 not only do they look after Laura but the wonderful lady looked after me offering me cups of tea or coffee when I stayed with Laura. Laura's blood pressure is a bit low too but this is a new regime of chemotherapy she has just started and between that and the steroids Laura has been very jumpy and unable to get a decent sleep so hope she gets a good sleep at Stobo Castle. I love my beautiful daughter so much she is so beautiful on the inside on the outside and only worries about those around her. She is a strong girl although she might not feel strong at the moment she is and she will keep positive and fight this cancer and hope that she has the most wonderful wedding day next Friday to the lovely and quiet Alan. I will be proud to call him my son in law as they are childhood sweethearts he is already a part of our family as is the lovely addition to the family Beau rescued from Dogs Trust. Laura missed Alan and Beau terribly when she was in hospital and I am glad she is home to her own house with Alan and Beau and let you all know how Stobo Castle visit goes. Thanks to everyone who has supported Laura so far thorough her tough fight against cancer.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs to all
Mumsie x
Thanks to Margaret in Kirkintilloch today for our wee chat and your lovely cup of coffee. Much appreciated and love to David in the USA. Clever boy.

Quick message to thank everyone on twitter who support Laura and the family every day and night. 24/7 support. Thank you to the lovely Neil for the amazing bouquet of flowers he sent to Laura on her forthcoming marriage to Alan tomorrow at Glenskirlie Castle. Laura is not too well so hope and pray that tomorrow goes wonderfully for Laura and Alan. A big thank you to Deborah Alsina Chief Executive of Bowel Cancer UK for her wonderful and continued support which goes well above what any CEO of any company would or could do for anyone. She is such a wonderful lady doing so much to try to raise awareness about bowel cancer and she should be recognised for all that she tries to do. Hopefully one day she will be and get the recognition she deserves. So many people could not name them all individually but they are all rooting for Laura and Alan for their big day tomorrow and for that I thank every single one of them. Thank you so much Lesley x
ReplyDeleteWant to say a big THANK YOU to Laura's work colleagues at RESPECTME the anti bullying campaign where Laura works who sent her a most amazing wedding gift for Laura and Alan a lot of money and a beautiful photo frame. Both of which are very gratefully received and will be put to good use. RESPECTME is part of SAMH in Glasgow and thank you to each and every one who made a wonderful donation and such a beautiful card. Laura is not up to reading all the messages at the moment but after the Wedding I will sit with her and read her all the lovely messages. It is definitely a card to treasure thanks to everyone. Means a lot to all of us.
ReplyDeleteTake care all Lesley x
Laura and Alan's Wedding Day is finally coming so near. Tomorrow Laura will be Mrs and not Miss. Laura and her two beautiful bridesmaids Gillian and Gemma are off to stay in Glenskirlie tonight to make it easier for Laura to get ready tomorrow. Hope that Laura and Alan's big day goes wonderfully for them both and they are able to have a good day. Hope Laura can be pain free and manage to walk down the Aisle. So excited and so nervous for her at the same time. The most important day of a Girl's Life or one of them. Just hope it is filled with happiness and love and that Laura manages to have as pain free day as she can manage. Will get some pictures posted as soon as we can. So excited and so nervous. We all love you so much Laura we are so proud of how brave you have been and all that you go through day and night. You are so so brave and never complain. We love you so much so proud of our beautiful daughter. Can't wait to see you in your wonderful Wedding Dress you will be the most stunningly beautiful bride ever. Love you lots Mumsie x
ReplyDeleteI came across this blog while searching for something fashion related, so I don't know Laura personally but I'm rooting for her, stay strong!!!!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS to the bride & groom, and family as well.
Oh thank you so much On.dree.uh Laura has not been able to post much fashion since her illness but hope she manages to do a wee bit after the wedding. She got her dream camera too at Christmas for fashion blogs but not been well enough to use it yet. Lovely to meet you on her blog. She is on twitter too @paperdollybird and I am @BEAUTIFULMUMSIE if you are on twitter. Take care lovely x Lesley (Laura's Mum) excited about today. x
DeleteHave been unable to update Laura's blog as she was very ill lately. Will come back on and post about the wonderful Wedding Day that Laura and Alan had on 1st March 2013
ReplyDeleteSadly I am posting that Laura lost her brave fight for life on Saturday 30th March 2013 four weeks to the day of their wonderful wedding.
We are in shock and I will come back and post all about the Wedding when I feel up to it
But Laura fought a long and hard battle against stage IV bowel cancer, spread to all over liver mets, then spread to both lungs and recently found out Laura's cancer has spread over all bones so bone cancer too however Laura was not aware of this.
She was the strongest, bravest, most beautiful girl in the World and we cannot believe she is not with us.
We cannot take it in just now too raw. Not got funeral arrangements yet but will post them on and on twitter when we get the details.
RIP my beautiful young daughter. This little message does not do justice I just can't think or write properly and will come back and write about the Wedding and what happened thereafter when I feel strong enough.
To everyone out there fighting cancer Fight as hard as you can. Never give up the fight. Laura was so brave, such a brave soldier. Thinking about all the carers out there too it is so so hard to watch our loved ones suffer
Will post when I can
Love
Lesley x Laura's Mum x

ReplyDeletePlease read the above story. Our beautiful daughter Laura lost her fight against bowel cancer and is being buried on Wednesday 10th April at the age of 31 only four weeks after marrying her childhood sweetheart Alan.
If this story just saves one life then I am grateful to Chris at Daily Record for running the story. I have already heard from two people today who are going to Doctors to demand to be checked out properly one young person was told after complaining of bleeding for some time "You are not 85 years old" another story I got today was from a friend who's relative knows someone who ready Laura's story in the daily record and has been putting off going to the doctor to tell them of bleeding for some time is now going to make an appointment immediately. Lives must be saved. Young people should not be being ignored. Our beautiful daughter Laura should still be with me now we are such a close wee family and I cannot imagine how I will cope in life without her seeing her every day. This should not have happened to Laura so please lets not let it happen to others. Please support Bowel Cancer UK Deborah Alsina is the CEO and is wonderful and you can find them both on twitter and you will get all the help you need from them if you feel you have any symptoms or go to your Doctor and demand to have these symptoms investigated. Bowel Cancer UK are trying to raise funds and if you wish to donate please go to http://www.justgiving.com/deborah-alsina and make a donation large or small it all helps on behalf of and in memory of our beautiful daughter Laura. Thank you. Lesley x Mumsie x

Not had strength to update Laura's blog of late but missing her terribly. No words can describe the pain we are suffering. I would just like to say that we are all thinking about Stuart and family as Katie Scarborough has lost her brave fight against cancer. Laura and Katie are two of the bravest woman in the World and my heart goes out to Stuart and the wee ones. We have to do more to stop young people like Laura and Katie losing their lives to bowel cancer which should have been detected early enough and the girls should still be with us today. Please do what little or large you can to support http://www.justgiving.com/deborah-alsina by giving what you can to raise awareness for Bowel Cancer UK never2young campaign to save others lives. Deborah and the team @ Bowel Caner UK do more than just a job. They care about saving lives. Please help them to do so by giving a little or a lot. It all adds up Deborah still has long way to go to get the £50K target but you can help her get there. Please go onto her page and give what you can
ReplyDeleteMiss you so much dollybird Laura. Always in our hearts and heads. That can and never will be taken away from us. You are here with me every day in my heart missing you so so much lovely girl. Best girl in the World. The Best. Mumsie x
SORRY FOR NOT BEING ON TO UPDATE LAURA'S BLOG. Been missing our beautiful gorgeous Laura so so much words are not suffice to describe the loss and emptiness we feel in our hearts and in our heads. Citizens Advice Bureau in Kirkintilloch where Laura's brother Christopher works were very brave and kind and supported
ReplyDeletehttp://www.justgiving.com/deborah-alsina in memory of Laura Lesley by wearing onesies on national onesie day so thank you to Catherine Bradley the Manager of CAB in Kirkintilloch and to all the staff and volunteers who took part and for the clients who also donated money. The raised an amazing £316 plus gift aid of another £79 over and above that helping the wonderful work for the #never2young campaign at Bowel Cancer UK. Deborah Alsina the CEO does such a wonderful job she really does work 24/7 not forgetting all her staff behind the scenes who we sometimes forget to think about or thank them. Thank you to all concerned. Both in Christopher's work for being so kind and doing this in Laura's memory and to clients and to Bowel Cancer UK for the marvellous support they gave to Laura and give to me and the family and all the help they give to others. The money Deborah is trying to raise has a target of £50,000 now with the CAB's latest amount it has gone to over £12K so Deborah is well on her way to reaching the £50 to help raise awareness that young people too can develop bowel cancer. If only Laura or I had found Deborah and Bowel Cancer UK before Laura's cancer had spread and turned to terminal cancer Laura could still be with us today and should still be with us today. I will be posting some news on here soon about a massive event that will be coming up later in the year in memory of Laura and again we hope to raise thousands of pounds for the #never2young campaign and Bowel Cancer UK so keep watching this space. This idea was started up by Laura's Godmother Carolann and I cannot thank Carolann enough for thinking it up in the first instance. I would also like to thank Chloe Gerber of Taggarts who is going to help Carolann and support her all the way through the event and try to think of lots of fundraising opportunities so if anyone out there is reading this and has any ideas please get in touch with us via Laura's paperdollybird here or contact @BEAUTIFULMUMSIE on twitter and someone will get back to you. We are looking for amazing prizes to raffle and to auction as I say we want to raise thousands of pounds at the event to take place later in the year and we have started working hard already and secured a few amazing prizes. More information will follow as and when we have the appropriate information. Laura would have been so proud of her Godmother Carolann doing this and of the lovely Chloe who has been a wonderful help and we have only just started. Can I also say hello and thank you to a new person who has just come into our lives Linsay Gray the new fundraiser at Bowel Cancer UK Scotland's Edinburgh branch. We will be keeping Linsay very busy with this event and keep you posted once more information is available. We hope to get a lot of good support to make as much money as we can in Laura's memory. Laura would have been so organised and good at organising this so we have a lot to live up to and I am sure we will do her proud. Thanks for reading. Take care missing Laura terribly and struggle to get through each day we all do as we are such a close and loving wee family. Ewan's family has been an amazing support to me as I do not have brothers and sisters and I do not know what I would do without the help and support they have shown us also Laura's friends you know who you are have been amazing too. Miss you same Laura. Best girl in world. Mumsie x
Miss my beautiful Laura been too unwell to update her blog here. Will do when I feel stronger. Also Christopher her wee brother unwell. Getting MRI tomorrow and the next two days in hospital for four hours each time. Worry worry worry. Will update when I feel stronger. Going to London to meet the wonderful Deborah Alsina and all the bowel cancer UK twitter supporters who get me through the day and who were such a wonderful support to Laura when she was alive. I can't believe she has gone. I keep waiting on her coming through the door and saying Love You Mum if only she could. Love to all Lesley x
ReplyDeleteA year ago today is when Laura got the tragic news that she had Colon Cancer. Every day is hard but today has been such an awful reminder that this is real that Laura has passed away and she lost her fight against colon cancer stage 4 at diagnosis then it spread to all over her liver mets and then spread to both lungs and in the end spread to Laura's bones. Poor Laura did not know it had spread to her bones. She was in such awful pain day and night and being the brave girl Laura always has been she never complained. She worried about those around her, her family who she loved and cared for so much. We were the closest wee family you could ever imagine. She worried all the time about her wee brother Christopher and right now I know she will be worrying about him. He has four hours of tests today at hospital, goes back tomorrow for MRI and then goes back on Friday to see the doctor. So we are all worried sick about him and I know that Laura will be looking down on Christopher worried sick about him. I had a scan last week and have not got my results back yet but I am only worried about Christopher.
ReplyDeleteWe miss Laura day and night. She was such a special loving person. The best person I know in the whole World and I cannot believe she has been so cruelly taken from us. Please support the #never2young campaign on Bowel Cancer UK and support us in whatever way you can.
Christopher if well enough will be doing a SKYDIVE for Bowel Cancer UK and for his sister Laura in her memory in September page details to follow to get some sponsorship for that as a team they need to raise £3k for bowel cancer uk
. Then in the 4th October is the big fundraiser in memory of Laura again in aid of Bowel Cancer UK and the #never2young campaign so if anyone out there reads this we need prizes for auction for the vent. It will be held in central Glasgow and it will be a big affair. Details to follow. Carolann Laura's Godmother started this off and it is her baby and she is a hairdresser and has beautiful hair like Laura and will be having all her hair shaved off for Laura again we are looking for sponsorship for this. Chloe a family member is doing a great job securing amazing prizes for auction and raffle. We have overnight stay at Cameron House Hotel, We have golf for 4 at Loch Lomond, We have ovenight stay at Glenskirlie Castle courtesy of the lovely Colin where Laura and Alan were married on 1/3/13 Laura passed away on 30/3 a month to the day she married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life Alan. We have a studio apartment for weekend at Loch Fyne overlooking the Loch, a wonderful spa day at Newton Mearns, La Prairie have donated a £500 pot of caviar face cream, Harrods have donated spa products, we have a donation of holiday apartment in Bulgaria for 1 week or 2 weeks the choice of the winner, we have a beautiful big white teddy bear all the way from Dubai, We have a wonderful voucher from the Real Flower Company where Laura and Christopher always bought me my favourite chocolates from who have the most wonderful gifts and flowers, we have an M & S Voucher from a fellow cancer sufferer and a wonderful oodie bag of various items from a fellow cancer sufferer. Today the amazing Mark Beaumont has donated a set of signed books. Irvine Welsh has signed novel, as has Ian Rankin to name just a few of the wonderful prizes and we have a long way to go. The evening we hope will consist of a French Martini in Laura's honour and we are working tirelessly to gain as many prizes as possible so if you are reading this and can offer a prize or donation please let me know. As you know Laura's passion was fashion so we are hoping some fashion houses out there will make some donations of some fashion items yet to happen but early days but we hope they will come forward and donate to such a wonderful cause.
ReplyDeleteSo a year ago today is when Laura got that most awful news anyone could get yet alone a beautiful young lady starting out in life.Laura should have been married three months now and starting a family with Alan like she wanted to do. That is all she wanted to be married to Alan and have a wee family.
She was robbed of her life but this fundraiser is to help support Bowel Cancer UK and keep Laura's memory alive.
Please get in touch with me via this blog if you can help us out in any way or even if you want to buy a ticket for the event on 4/10/13
laura Love you Same Mumsie x
Going to London on Saturday to meet with the lovely and wonderful Deborah Alsina at Bowel Cancer UK new offices in London and all the wonderful twitter family who supported Laura and I through days and nights will be lovely to see people and put names to faces and vice versa. Just sorry our wee Laura wont be there to meet them all. Everyone would have fallen in love with Laura that is for sure. She is always with me in her own way but not same. Still can't believe she is not here. Keep expecting her to walk through the door. If only she could do. Life is just so hard without her. Will never be able to accept this. Just take each day and night as it comes. Miss you Dollybird your wee Mumsie x LOVE YOU SAME x Laura would as all her readers know love to have gone shopping to Oxford Street, Bond Street etc so if I get time I will pop up and see what shopping I can do although I still can't bare to go into a shop without Laura. It is so hard. We loved doing our shopping together in London the most and it will be so hard. It always will be.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone supporting the team skydive for Bowel Cancer UK that Christopher is doing in his lovely sister's memory they were so close and he is so brave just like Laura would want him to be he will always be with her in her heart and she will always be looking out for her wee brother. If you read this and you can give what you can afford it all adds up to help raise awareness for #never2young campaign for Bowel Cancer UK this is Christophers page https://www.justgiving.com/Christopher-Shannon
donate what you can please for such a wonderful cause x
Miss you Laura
MISS YOU SAME x
I just heard the door go and was greeted by a delivery man with a big box. I was not expecting a large parcel so what a lovely surprise when I opened it and it is from a lovely lady called Gail on twitter who herself has cancer and is fighting against it. I opened the box and inside was a lovely card telling me who it was from but the gift is so special and so unique.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful yellow rose named LAURA FORD rose. Laura and I both loved yellow Laura's favourite flowers were tulips and I am so humbled at this beautiful gift from such a lovely lady herself fighting against cancer. So thank you sincerely Gail. I don't even know if Gail knows about or raads Laura's fashion blog but thank you Gail from the bottom of my heart Love and hugs Lesley x such a lovely surprise and will treasure it always. Now we have two Roses need to make a special garden just for Laura as the wonderful London DJ Joel Stern sent me a Jubilee Rose when Laura passed away to keep in Laura's memory forever so I will find a special place for both of them now and keep them near each other. thanks Joel and Gail Love you both lots. See you on Saturday in London Gail see Joel next time as he can't make it this weekend. Laura would loved to have met you all Lesley x
MISS YOU SAME GORGEOUS GIRL X MUMSIE X
ReplyDeletewill be Laura's 32 Birthday tomorrow and she should be here with me just now. We should be shopping in London like she always did saved up so hard and went shopping in London for her birthdayand then again for Christmas. That was Laura's two favourite times of the year that and summer sunshine holidays. Miss you same dollybird. So hard to cope and get through the days and nights without you here with me. You should still be here with me but we are working hard trying to raise awareness on your behalf and will never stop doing that in your name. Christopher is doing really well with raising money for Bowel Cancer UK for the skydive and Uncle Harry sent a cheque today for £50 which we all appreciate very much so we will get that into account and then put onto the skydive page. Christopher is doing so well Laura you would be and we know you are so proud of your wee brother as you were so close. We are missing you terribly and dont know what we would do without support of the Tierney family who are here for us all the time all of them have been the best support ever. Could not get through the day without their support and of BCUK especially Deborah Alsina x Hope everyone is signing the petition to raise awareness for #never2young campaign that Laura was a part of if we had this and had heard stories like Laura and Katies Laura and Katie would still be with us all today. So that is why it is so important that I carry on this work for Laura in her memory hope you are proud of your wee Mum Laura I am doing my best but wish I was not doing this we should be out in London right now shopping in Selfridges and Harvey Nichols etc Love you same baby girl Mumsie x
ReplyDeleteI did not post on Laura's birthday as I was too upset to. Lots of family and friends have been so kind and left lovely flowers for Laura and sent flowers to me you all know who you are and without you I would not get through the day. In the evening we all went for a lovely family meal even although I was dreading it it was so lovely to be there with such wonderful people and they all love and adore Laura shame Alan did not manage as it was not the same without him being there with us as we all used to be in celebrating Laura's birthday then yesterday was another difficult day it was my Dad's birthday and he has passed away too weeks before Laura in January and yesterday we were at the funeral of my Mum's brother so Mum has lost her husband her beautiful and precious Grand daughter Laura and now her brother. What more can one family take or go through. Thank you to all the family and friends who have all the way through supported us without your strength and love we could not make it. Every day I feel I wont make it to the next day but I do. I am working hard trying to get the petition signed to get it to Downing Street with Bowel Cancer UK http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/prime-minister-david-cameron-save-lives-of-younger-bowel-cancer-patients if you have not already done so please sign it and get everyone else too as soon as we get it there hopefully we will be able to save lives of young people like Laura and Katie Scarbrough who also lost her fight against bowel cancer too young like Laura they were wonderful support to one and other now Stuart supports the Shannon family and we do out best to keep Stuart going too and his lovely children little Sophie and big brother Sam. Carolann is doing a big fundraiser for Laura on 4/10 and we have amazing prizes and Carolann will be sponsored to shave all her beautiful hair off so everyone come and join in and raise lots of money for BCUK and awareness to stop this happening to other young people. Also Christopher is doing a skydive and he is looking for people to sponsor him and give some money so if you have not done it already dig deep and get sponsoring
ReplyDeletehttps://www.justgiving.com/Christopher-Shannon
give as much or as little it all adds up., he is doing so well so far but we need to get a lot more money raised.
Just found out today that Laura's workplace Respectme are kindly donating the money to pay for Christopher doing the actual skydive which is an amazing thing to do so thank you to Brian at Respect me and SAMH for doing this. A wonderful gesture. If anyone needs to know anything about the fundraiser or the skydive or the petition you can email me
lesley.shannon8@googlemail.com

Special thanks to June, Lorraine, Shona, Lynsay, TJ and aunty Marion and Sharon who keeps me going in Caramel Shortcake when I am really stressed.
Thanks to all family and friends who have already made donations for the skydive and prizes for the fundraiser and we need a lot more so looking for more names appering on that skydive page I have posted for Laura that Christopher is doing anyone else who fancies jumping out of a plane just drop me an email I can sort it for you too. Any brave people out there.
A dear friend of Laura and I sadly passed away on Monday in Marie Curie Hospice. We will miss you dearly Agnes Campbell. The funeral is on Saturday and sadly I cannot go as it is in Isle of Jura but my thoughts are with Colin and the family.
ReplyDeleteRIP Agnes Campbell. The only person that Laura could speak to who had cancer the same as Laura. She is the only person Laura could fully share things with at the time relating to finding out she had developed bowel cancer.
We love you Agnes and I for one will never forget you.
Lesley x

ReplyDeleteNot been updating on Laura's paperdollybird website as I had a bad accident and fell down stairs so have been unable to do anything literally. Very lucky I was not paralysed. Gave everyone a fright, especially myself. Came back from Bulgaria a week early and booked another flight home as I wanted to go to cemetery to speak to Laura not that I need to go there to speak to here but just felt I had to come home. I fell down stairs and did not get there any sooner in fact I have been in hospital and only got to see her yesterday and even then only for a few minutes. First time out in car was a nightmare. Went for a birthday tea to a family member and sat in the corner the whole time in agony but they all had a lovely double family birthday Mother and Daughter. Something Laura and I can never celebrate together again so very hard but was lovely to watch everyone else having fun. I miss you so much Laura my brave beautiful most special girl in the whole world. Love and kisses Mumsie LOVE YOU SAME x

ReplyDeleteLast day of May Laura and you would have enjoyed the beautiful sunshine weekend here. How excited you would be when sun was shining, when it wasnt your 'day for the ducks' weather I think you adored all Seasons bless you, typical, you always looked for the good in everyone, looked for the positives, so why the F Did Cancer come and take you so cruelly from us. So many bad, evil, wicked people in this World yet you would never have wished it to be them. You would never have chosen to give it to them instead of you . Why not Laura, why not. I dont think anyone deserves to go through the hell that is Cancer. But Why You? Why my Beautiful Girl? Why my precious daughter and my best and only real true friend in the World. We could tell each other absolutely everything and we did we didnt need it written down in black books did we Laura? ha I know you will laugh at that as you know what I am talking about. We didnt and dont need evil people in our life. Glad there wasnt many of them. But they know who they are. What goes round comes around eh Laura just a shame it is taking so long. This is a rant sorry Laura just letting off some steam. I miss you so much my beautiful girl. It shouldnt have been you it should have been the evil folks that are taken not innocent young beautiful people like yourself and all the other wonderful young folks I have got to know through bowel cancer. Bless them all, true friends under horrid cancer. F Cancer right enough eh Laura x Love You Same Gorgeous Girl. Your wee Mumsie x Until I can be reunited with you in Heaven x Hope you are with Katie, Katie, Joey, Cameron, Bessie, Lachie, Granda Bambi and Teddy and Rollo until we can be with you again bless you all x Miss You Same Laura, my heart is totally breaking x So lost without you and you would have loved weather today listening to birds chirping and Cooper out back enjoying the sunshine under the table in his shaded bit x You know where we are Laura as you are always here with us I know you are but not in the way we needed it to be in real life where you should be having a baby living life with Alan and having fun x Mumsie x sorry for rant Laura needed to let off some steam or I might have burst and that would not be a pretty site right now ha x

ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks every day and night without you Laura always will most special daughter in the World. Cancer is so cruel and fed up that so many other younger folks dying of cancer too it just isn't right and more needs to be done. When are they going to find a cure and when are they going to listen to younger folks so that early detection is crucial to survival please listen to younger folks if they present with symptoms and signs that could be cancer do the right tests timeously and hopefully rule out cancer don't assume folks like Laura are too young to have cancer this has to stop.
